Hi All!
I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience with using remote uncouplers in n-scale for the hard to reach areas of a layout. Something along the lines of an electro magnet either as part of the track or under it, even if there is a all in one setup like Lionel has for their operating tracks. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron
Hello,
I have medium size N scale layout and have had the same issue with remote areas on the layout that I need be able to uncouple. I read an article on the web with using magnets to uncouple cars. I used Radio Shack part number 64-1879 magnets, they are about a 1" rectangle. Use two magnet placed side by side, stuck together. Before laying track and road bed determine the location where you would like to have uncoupling spots. Chisel out the structure so the magnets are flush with the surface. Place road bed and track centered over the seam between the two magnets length wise. Roll a couple of cars over the magnets pausing with the couplers over the magnet and watch as the couplers are pulled toward the outside of the track and they uncouple. This is a pretty affordable method. There are commercial magnetic uncouplers available from I believe Micro Trains.
Good Luck![swg]
