Hi;
I have an N Scale Atlas C-630 and want to install a decoder. I have tried to pry up the shell (long hood) but am afraid of breaking something as it seems reluctant to come loose. Can anyone tell me what the secret is to removing this shell? Or, should I just “pry away” and pray?
Thanks,
Tom.
i don’t know about the atlas c630 but the other atlas and other brand shells usually come off by spreading the shell apart very carefully. don’t pry up. you’ll break off the mounting tabs which will make the shell come off each time you pick it up.
Go to the Atlas site & find your info there. You also should try the Atlas Forum.
If you purchased the loco new, it should have included an exploded parts diagram. Usually, you can identify the locations of the mounting tabs. Once you know where they are, you can use a very fine screwdriver to release the tabs and remove the shell.
Thanks guys!
I did buy the loco new and it does have an exploded drawing in the box. I guess my old, tired eyes can’t see anything that small too good any more. I wi***hey could make the exploded views larger but I guess there’s no room in the box. [sigh] Bikerdad, I tried prying gently (with a small jeweler’s screwdriver) where the tabs are supposed to be and it seems reluctant to come loose. I got the end of the long hood loose, but can’t seem to get the tabs under the cab to cooperate. I’ll try again. I’ll also go to the Atlas forum and ask there. Thanks, I didn’t even know there was an Atlas forum until yesterday.
Thanks again! [:)]
Tom.
