N Scale Slash Pine

Greetings all!

I am in the process of building an N scale coffee table layout, loosely based on the Apalachicola Northern in Port St. Joe, Florida. Photos and maps have made it obvious that I need a sizeable amount of slash pine trees to closely simulate this area of Florida. Woodland Scenics Pine and conifer tree kits appear to be close, and could work well with some trimming of branches.

My questions are, are the small pines from WS appropriately sized for slash pines in N scale? And has anyone modeled slash pine forests using other methods?

I should note that I normally model in HO, but have limited space in an apartment, which is why I am using N scale.

Thanks!

Mike

Timberline Scenery has more pines than you can shake a stick at.

Or, you can make your own for pennies on the dollar (will cost you some time, though).

As slash pines have pretty sparse greenery, and really only at the top, I’ll bet you could find some bushes with similar shaped trunks / armatures and get pretty close with those.
