N scale track planning

im switching from HO to N using atlas track componets but im confused on parallel sidings… atlas HO turnouts come with a short curved section for parallel sidings. N scale turnouts dont. also using the RTS track planner from atlas the 1/2 sections of curved track wont allow an easy solution. am i missing something? is it just a matter of cutting and fitting track? should i stay with HO?..thx in advance for help

The Atlas code 80 stuff is a cut and fit (pain in the butt!). Atlas code 55 #5 turnout uses a 30" r curve piece to bring the track tangent and a #7 uses a 72" track to do the same.

code 55 its is…as with HO i would assume that flange size is something to keep in mind while buying engines and rollingstock…

It is. Most of the newer stuff comes with low profile flanges so you’re good there. If in doubt, the NMRA RP25 rating for flanges in N scale is what you want to adhere to. Most of the time just go with low profiles and you’re good.

again thx…off topic question…how do you get the animated gif in your signature…i have some train ones but cant get them downloaded to my profile…any hints??

Yeah, there’s a couple of ways. The easiest is to get a photo hosting account and store the photo’s there. Then you can paste them on any forum you want. I pasted that one into my signature area on my profile so it’s automatically added to all my posts.

You can get a free photo hosting account at lots of places. I’ve had a few different accounts, but I’ve found Photobucket about the easiest to use. You can sign up here: http://photobucket.com/

Once you get the account you can add photo’s and .gif’s and then it’s just cut and paste, and ta-dah…

instant pics!
