high nose GP30 ala SOU/N&W (just cus I don’t think I would want to kitbash something like that so small)
and staying on that subject, some high-nose 38 and 40 series ala SOU/N&W
Does anyone still make good quality 2-8-0’s and 2-8-2’s anymore?
Oh yeah, and one more wish-list request. Some re-tooling of frames to fit a good sound system. I really really really love N scale, but am still brought back to HO simply because of the DCC/sound capabilities.
Oh, and one more thing. A reframe/remotor kit for Life-Like F40PH. I do like the pair I have, but the plastic frame with fitted metal weights just doesn’t do it for me. The two units I have kind of sit on the back self because of this, even though the one powered unit worked excellently in my test runs, after sitting for who knows how long on the consignment shelf. I’m pretty sure it needs to have it’s gears lubed though.
i would like to see an MP15AC in N Scale, the bay window caboose by Athearn done in n scale along with a 60’ bulkhead and 50 and 60’ box cars in the yellow scheme. More yellow scheme gondolas and the 89’ tri level auto rack from Micro Trains done in the yellow scheme for Milwaukee Road.
An Alco switcher would be nice. Life Like did a great job with the EMD SW1200s with all the different roadnames, but the Alcos are just so ‘train-ish’ looking in my opinion.
I guess you haven’t checked out the Bman DD-40X, It’s not a brass model But runs well and isn’t bad for the money. Kato makes little jewels 2-8-2s. Check um out!!!
It would be nice to have alot of things in N. But it isn’t going to happen unless the model railroad industry can make a profit providing it. Adn that can’t be guaranteed in any kind of economy. It’s simply a matter of supply and de,and reasonable prices.
When I first got into the hobby in the late 1970s a locomotive whether HO or N cost under $30.00. Today $100 + prices prevail. So sticker shock isn’t a new term to me, it does represent my reaction to buying anything. Yes costs have gone up but under that shell is still the sme mechanism that was under rthe shell of thwe locomotives of 30 years ago. R&D should have been fully expensed by now. So why isn’t that reflected? Accounting rules in general and cost accounting rules in particular haven’t changed. So what gives?Irv
