N&W 4-8-0

Anyone have a Brass 4-8-0 for sale under $450?

There is one on eBay that is going for $224.50 right now.

I did some research and most of them end up going for a little over $600 though. I have not been able to find one for $450, but I found a new one at TheCaboose.com for $595.

Hope this helps,
Kevin

Thanks, Yea he has his Reserve set at about $550. too much money for me, but real cheap for a PSC. Im looking for a Sunset.

You can usually find the LMB model for much less.

$224.50 soon to be $724.50, welcome to ebay.

Don’t know much about this company. How is the quality?

The Brown Book does not say anything about the quality. I know someone on eBay bought one for $450 a month or so ago, and immediately listed it for much less than they paid. I am not sure that is a good sign for the quality.

Ahhhh ,I have to say LMB is not even close to the quality of PSC or Challenger models.
I rate them alongside the KTM stuff which in my experience has been rather poorly built.

The LMB N&W 4-8-0 is a nice running locomotive, it runs like a very well tunned Bowser kit, it pulls well. The detail is sparse compare with current offerings, what is there is correct, there are opportunities to add many detail items.

Is it Japanese or Korean? What year was it imported?

LMB is the importer and it stands for L.M. Blum Models. They were imported from '63 - '67 according to the Brown book. The builder for them was Kumata Models (KMT). There are no notes about it in the book though.

Thanks everyone! [:D]

I got a little more spending money, I called the Caboose today and they were sold out. Anyone know where I can get a PSC model for around $550-$600?

I think that I got the last one from them. I found their sale by looking at every link I could find for a PSC 4-8-0 through Yahoo and Google. When I was checking on eBay I noticed the same guy was selling them over and over for the past few months. He was from CT same as The Caboose. So I am wondering if he was buying them and then reselling on eBay for a profit. Most of the ones that I saw on eBay went for around $750.

The same person who has been listing them has two available, both marked as the last one of that particular number (1157 and 1154).

I bidded on the PSC model but was unsuccessful. But everything turns out the best. Luckily, I got a Sunset Factory painted unit for $470.
Thanks for everyones help! [:D]

I have spoken to some people regarding the quality of the Sunset compared to the PSC. Most people say in the running department they are both terrific. But in detail the PSC is much better. Anyone have a diffrent opinion?

I called PSC last week to ask which decoder they would recommend installing. While talking with the technician he told me that the motor in the PSC 4-8-0 was not very good for pulling lots of cars. I have yet to test it out on my layout because I have the Prodigy Advance and I can’t run a DC loco. So your Sunset it probably has more pulling power.

The detail on the PSC is outstanding though. I am glad that you got your Mastodon.
