N&W 611 tickets still available for April

Anyone even remotely thinking about riding behind 611 should do it this year. Norfolk Southern has already concluded the 21st Century Steam program and Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum and Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society will not be sponsoring trips over NS this year, although deadheading (no passengers) to other railroads for operation will be permitted. NS generously allowed VMT to operate the 611 for eight days of excursions this year - but who knows about next year.

Ride 'em while you can. Nothing lasts forever. And there are certainly no guarantees about next year.

THANK YOU Norfolk Southern and Wick Moorman for what you have done over the past six years.

Yikes - I figured the trips would be selling a lot better than that. C’mon people, and buy tickets! If 611 were to work her way further north, then I imagine tickets would be selling a lot better - especially considering she ran most of these routes last year. Consider - the Sunday April 10 trip over the Old Fort Loops - not ran last year, sold out very quickly. I can imagine that new trips would sell out quickly as well - work your way north, 611!

I would imagine a Horseshoe Curve trip with 611 would sell out immediately.

I would absolutely love to ride behind the 611. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine. However, the ticket prices are too high for me to go! Maybe if the ticket prices were lower, more tickets would be sold!

They also might get more riders if the trips offered a photo-runby. Now, only the chasers can get a good action shot.

Bring her to the western portion of the NS system.

Thanks for f*cking over all the supporters in the Midwest that made donations to get 611 back up and running. No excursions for us here.

Calm down Philip its not like 611 is going to be retired after this season.

I agree with Roger Cole but I would still like to ride to Front Royal. Anyone know of a hotel in Manassas that is walking distance of the VRE station and the departure point for the excusions?

I see a couple of laments below that express frustration over the apparently limited excursion schedule. Sadly, this wonderful rolling history lesson can’t go everywhere. I agree with my good friend Jim Overholser. Nothing is forever.

N&W611 has had more “re-births” than most locomotives. Her latest reincarnation was the work of Wick Moorman. My thanks to him also are extended.

Robert: The Olde Town Inn is about a three block walk from the station. I’ve never stayed there, but I have dined several times at City Tavern, which adjoins the Inn. The website is www.oldetowneinn.com. I hope you will be able to make it.
