My layout is based on the Pocahontas Division of the N&W. I love mountain scenery and fall colors. I am not trying to build exact scenes but rather the feeling and look of 1957 in the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia.[:D] I have been trying to download some photos for the Forum [2c]but have not been successful, yet. Time to ask the wife who is much better at this sort of thing than I am. Stay tuned.
If I hadn’t decided to model what I do I might be modeling what you’ve chosen.
OTOH, If it was covered with a cedar forest, West Virginia would closely resemble the Central Japan Alps.

Craig, please receive this as informational and not critical… I think you’ll find that the Blue Ridge Mountains are in Virginia and not West Virginia. The coal mining areas of southern West Virginia are generally in either the Allegheny Mountains or the Cumberland Mountains. The Blue Ridge is the range of mountains just east of Roanoke, VA.

Thanks, Bill. I have lived in the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina and am used to the Blue Ridge Mountains. I appreciate the information.[tup]
Were I starting out from scratch right now I would seriously considering modeling the N&W and that part of the country. I didn’t discover O’Winston Link until the late 1990s. Of course it isn’t just the railroads but the book “Rocket Boys” and “The Coalwood Way” had some influence there too.
