I am looking for information about N&W depots. I have a book that shows the outside of many N&W depots in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, and North Carolina. They all appear to be different!![8D] I am looking to find details about the interiors of some of the depots. I am modeling mostly the Pocahantas Division with prototype freelancing. But, I want the N&W depots to look like N&W depots. I am a member of the N&W Historical Society. But, not enough details in the books and photos that I have seen. Any suggestions. I like Elkhorn, WV in particular, but Davy and others are great. I plan to build at least 4 depots over the years for my layout.[:D]
Do not have any information for you. But I do have some questions. I notice that you posted that you belong to the N&W Historical society. What do they provide for membership, what is the yearly cost …?
VTI’s website used to have a collection of N&W photos. They had hundreds of pages of depot photos but you had to go through them one at a time.
Back in the dark ages, David P. Morgan noted in a Trains article about the N&W that, “… stations … obviously came with the property.” The property being the predecessor railroads that were merged into the 1950s N&W. Unlike the Santa Fe, which was building its own line through virgin territory, N&W didn’t have a standard station plan that they built everywhere. They simply continued to use whatever had been built before the acquisition or merger.
For the same reason, I wouldn’t expect to see much standardization of interior layouts.

You might try looking at the “Images of Rail” series of books. These are basically photo books with captions. The “Depots of ___ Ohio” series have pictures of N&W (and its predicessors). The author is Mark J. Camp. The books should be available via Amazon for about $20 each, or your local public library maybe for free If you want to see a N&W depot in its original condition, the Maumee, OH station is preserved at the Wolcott House Museum in Maumee, OH.
