N&W passenger cars

Division Point is offering new brass RPO and baggage cars for the N&W. I have seen an article in the NMRA magazine about these models. Does anyone have any experience with these models? I understand there were some painting irregularities. How well do they run? Will brass N&W class J’s or Broadway Limited class J’s pull these bad boys? I understand that Division Point has plans for models of other N&W passenger cars. Any information would be helpful.

I have only seen the M-1 RPO car in person so far. It’s a beautiful car and appears to be very accurate. The photos of the BEj baggage car also show it to be a very nice model. Yes, they did have plans for other cars but they have been known to delay or cancel proposed items so just keep checking their website. Don’t email or try to call as they never answer anyone.

There has been comment about the paint color. I wouldn’t worry too much about that as they look good! If you pay any attention to the historical groups and various web groups you will see the continual debates about paint. The Pennsy guys fight over DGLE and Tuscan and the N&W guys get gas over Pevler Blue or the “correct” Tuscan red for the J’s stripe. If a color looks unreasonable…that is…N&W Tuscan being represented by Santa Fe Red then I would say it’s wrong. Most of the cars were painted by different shops using various brands & batches of paint at staggered times. Paint SHOULD look a shade off here and there to represent prototypical equipment.

With that said I have to say I think the DP cars are grossly overpriced. If you watch ebay there are a couple dealers who regularly run these cars. They usually don’t sell the first go around, second try and often on the third try. However they lower the price to just a “high” price and not the outrageous original list price.

These two cars would be appropriate behind the J, K or E classes depending on the train you are trying to portray. Brass Js or BLI Js should have no trouble dragging a bunch of these cars on your layout.

Wanna buy a Sunset Powhatan Arrow set?

My 2¢,

Roger Huber

Actually, I have a Sunset Powhatan Arrow set. They run pretty good. I use a BLI N&W class J #611 as the motive power. By the way, it looks like Division Point is coming out with a Business car for the N&W and is scheduled to be released next month. I agree with you with respect to the price of the cars. They are VERY expensive!!

With price being a major factor in my passenger car purchases, I am looking really hard at the new, yet unreleased, “Powhatan Arrow” cars from MTH. They look really good on the website. Constant-lighted interiors is a plus too.

They should look good, they are pictures of Rail Classics Brass Cars!!!

I see that Division Point is offering a third passenger car for the N&W. It is a diner/business car. I have seen pictures of the prototype on the website. The cost is about $400 which is somewhat expensive.
