NARP enters Supreme Court case on passenger rail

They sure did BUT a for profit govt. entity should not be able to prioritize itself over private railroads they DO NOT control. Govt. is a non for profit entity( heck everybody knows that) BUT Amtrak shouldn’t be for profit AND a govt. entity. However Im seeing as a matter of law NOT of how I feel about Amtrak or any other Railroad, quite a task to settle, IF Supreme Court takes the case.

If I remember correctly, the railroads were happy to have government take passenger rail off their backs back in '71.

1971 was a start. Now I can’t smoke in my local bar. It is worse, elsewhere. Enuf, Big Bro!

Maybe it’s time to turn over all the long haul routes back over to the private carriers and let them run them for 20 more years. Bet they’d find a way to get them over the road in a reasonable time.

One can only imagine how the five male justices will rule. The SCOTUS is suppose to be non-partisan, isn’t it?

Seems like an appropriate time to threaten them. “Listen, you either make sure Amtrak gets what it needs to maintain its performance standards, or we will reinstate your common carrier obligations and require all class 1 railroads to operate passenger trains to stops deemed necessary by the federal government. …”

On a recent Amtrak trip from Denver to Omaha, over 2 hours were lost due to 26 slow orders on BNSF. That is a pretty sorry fact that contradicts the BNSF spinmasters.

Railroads were granted the land in which to lay track with the caveat to serve the public which includes providing transportation for the citizenry. Some in this forum will argue; “Well that’s a hundred years ago!” I don’t care if that was a million years ago; that’s still a legitimate condition.

Sorry about the double posting!

Amtrak ‘for profit’? When has it ever earned a profit. It should re-organize as a non-profit. I can’t recall any government enterprise that has ever turned a profit in a conventional sense.

Unfortunately, Mr. Feldmann, you’re right.
