Hello everyone!! [:)] Any railroaders out there know what the chances are of becoming a Conductor Trainee by attending the NARS (National Academy of Railroad Sciences)? I have submitted an on-line application and resume for a position open in my part of the state for a Conductor Trainee on one of the Class I railroads (BNSF). Also how expensive is the NARS? Sounds like it is a 6 week class. This training would be at my own expense! Oh yeah, I do not have any railroad experience beyond reading alot about it in Trains and belonging to a local Railroad museum. I have a mostly technical background, having worked on computers for the last 7 years.

As far as the money is concerned, having recently attended a similar program at Modoc Railroad Academy in Sacramento, CA (http://www.ModocRailroadAcademy.com/) at $ 5,500, I would personally say that it is well worth the investment to get your foot in the door with the railroad.
