Cool! NASA has a railway… and is using pace shuttle buildings to work on the buildings.
Neat!
While it’s nice they were able to use the building for something else. This seems like a huge waste to use the shuttle preparation building as a railroad repair shop.
NASA has been shut down by B. Hussein Øbama & Co. for higher priorities like huge handouts to big campaign contributors, expensive perks & vacations, etc., so they’re relegated to doing rairoad shop work now!!
Well done.
NASA had used their railroad resources to bring in some rocket parts. Most notably, they had “rocket train” that brought in the space shuttle solid rocket booster segments from ATK in Utah. That train will run again when the SLS rocket program is up and running.
They used to bring in helium by rail car too.
There are plenty of videos of the booster rocket train on YouTube, as well as one old commercially produced DVD that shows parts of NASA’s railroad operations.
The space shuttle program shutdown has been on NASA’s timetable for many years, going back to the previous presidential administration. Why let the building lie fallow now when it can be put to some useful purpose?
NASA has a RR?
So Mr Schowalter would rather see the facility sit idle at taxpayer expense rather than its current use?
Some larger milliary bases have rail operations too. If you have really big, heavy stuff being delivered from other parts of the country, rail is a pretty good way to move it.
I believe Trains had an article on the NASA railroad a few years back.
Great picture. Keep up the good work.
