National Railroad Museum

A few months ago I read a thread that some one posted about how dissapointed they were with the National Railroad Museum in Greenbay. I just got back from a trip to Wisconsin and while I was there I took my family to the museum. I was very impressed with the museum. they had a lot of intersting displays and there rolling stock collection was displayed well with access to many of the locamotive cabs. My Children enjoyed the train ride and climbing into the big steam engines. They also have a tower that you can climb and look over the Fox river. I would recomend to anyone that if you are in the area stop in, you won’t be dissapointed.

I agree with you about the National Railroad Museum. I got the chance to go there last fall and was impressed with the new buildings and the exhibits of the Big Boy and GG1, along with many other locomotives in the long sheds.
.
Maybe the other comments were on the Museum a few years back before the new exhibition building were built. It is really a great place, and the A4 from the UK is really a treat to see.
The 261 was there before the restoration and probably is still a treasure of the National Railroad Museum.
If you get a chance, go to the Greenbay National Railroad Museum.

[:D] I’m glad to see some one agrees with me. I really liked the model of the steam engine being rebuilt in the round house, some one put a lot of work into that.

yes, I too agree. My Dad and I went there a few months ago and I loved it. I was disapointed in the ride though, it’s fairly small. I did enjoy all the exibits and ever thing. My favorite thing had to be the former Wisconsin and calumet and Janesville and Southeastern locomotives, expecially the BL2’s. It helps that these are my second and third favorite lines too. I hope to custom paint a model of one of those sometime.

Yes the train ride was short. But I have small children and it was just right for them. They get board easily and start to fuss (no fun for us or anyone around us!).

I have not been there in years, but it is definitely a museum worth going to, if you are anywhere close.

Sounds neat–I’ll have to check it out the next time I get up to Green Bay, which might not be for a while…

A model of an engine being rebuilt? Just wait a few years until the the Railroad Technology Museum opens up at the California State Railroad Museum–where you’ll be able to see a FULL-SIZED steam engine being rebuilt…
