Why isn’t the EBT on top of the list? It is as important to the East as the Rio Grande narrow gauge segments are to the West. If this were Colorado or Canada there would be no question of restoring this authentic relic to operation.
How about the CamasPrairie 2nd sub?
How about the CamasPrairie 2nd sub?
What qualifies something to be considered a landmark? The East Broad Top is obvious. Others on this list are less clear to me why they should stand out as significant.
This is not only great list but also a great service to the rail and non rail communities…I hope it brings the required attention.
As a relatively new member of the NRHS I would really like to see a comparison of how the organization’s funds are spent with regard to preservation, conducting events for the pleasure of the members and management activities. Publication of their non-profit tax returns, which should be public record, would be a great start. However, my experience as a tax preparer tells me that there would be a lot of latitude in the classification of expenditures. Whether the data would suggest specific follow-up was needed could be determined, though.

I worked for a couple of really should be not only saved, but given NPS status ala Steamtown.* Why? The shop, support structures, machinery, etc. (last I heard) were relatively intact.
Add the steam and the fact that most of the rolling stock is originally EBT and you have a no brainer. But, indeed those other treasures need to be saved as well.
How about any armstrong lever interlocking tower?
I totally agree with adding the ACL #1504. When I last
saw her four years ago, she looked pretty bad from lack
of maintenance.
At the very least, she needs to be under cover.
Sorry David, but Buffalo never had a “Union Station”. Lehigh Valley had their own, while the old Lackawanna Station at the foot of Main Street (which served NKP & B&O) has been reported as being under consideration for restoration. Let’s hope that gets off the ground.
Agree, Bflo WAS an outstanding architectural landmark. Whether the years of scandalous neglect can be overcome by a few well meaning supporters is another matter.

It is too late for Memphis Union Station. Where was the NRHS in February 1969 when the station was razed?
How would one donate to a fund to save e.g. the E6 or the East Broad Top? If the EBT were completely abandoned it would be a tragedy. The State of PA should have an interest in it a la the Cass in W Va
The Michigan Central Station in Detroit is NOT WORTH SAVING. Ithas already been extensively vandalizezed and is a mere shell. It is also located in a neighborhood that is less than desirable.
Don’t waste money on it as it would be fuding a never ending project…build it in that area and the vandals will surely come. It is like a war zone.
Did I miss something? Duffields station? Is it on the list because of the threat of future replacement? Cause the current platform is a modern piece of crap. Or is the old station one of the small, old looking buildings off in the trees that looks like its already began to succumb to nature?
