NC picks shortline operator for state-owned tracks
I may not be reading this article correctly, but twice through it and I believe it is saying that the state owned rail corridor was built four years ago, but they have just found an operator and hope to develop business along the corridor. If my interpretation is correct, how much interest did the state lose in the four years without substantial revenue, and does that amount exceed the increase in costs over the four years?
I believe that there was an agreement between the state and NS to operate the line if and when traffic developed, and they were looking to Lenior County EDC to sell the land along the line to industrial developers. I think G&O will take a more active interest in marketing. Maintenance will be their responsibility, too.
Looks like after 4 years of nothing they decided to hire someone new ???
