NC Transportation Museum and an opportunity to gather NS Heritage reference material

Greetings all,

I ask your forgiveness if this is the wrong place for this but I just found this on the Peoria Rails Yahoo Group. I also put it on the ptototype forum too. I hadn’t seen any mention of this until now. Sorry also if I’m a little excitable about this but recently NC railroading seemed to be kind of quiet.

This would also be an excellent opportunity to gather reference material…Pictures!!! Hopefully the model maanufacturers would attend too.

Any how here it is:

Norfolk Southern Heritage locomotives to gather in North Carolina
for July 4 `family portrait’

NORFOLK, VA. – Norfolk Southern’s Heritage locomotives will gather for a
“family portrait” at the North Carolina Transportation Museum (NCTM) in Spencer,
N.C., during the Fourth of July week. All 20 locomotives painted in the color
schemes of predecessor railroads will be on display July 3 and 4.
“This is the first and probably only chance we’ll have to get all these
locomotives together in one place at one time,” said Norfolk Southern CEO Wick
Moorman. “We’re proud of the role railroads play in keeping the country’s
economy strong, and July 4 is an opportune time to showcase that heritage of
service and safety.”
“Having these engines gathered together is a phenomenon, not just an event,”

Wow that’s awesome and so close! Too bad I’m going on vacation on the 4th. I wonder if there is any chance that tgey will stick around for a few days…

There are at least two other threads on this topic.

They will only be there for two days. They are working locomotives and the majority of them have been hauling coal. They are available the third and fourth because the coal industry takes the holiday off.

The transportation museum will have them, and some other stock that are owned by the museum available for both day and night photography. Tickets are required and are available by calling the museum or going to:

Greetings,

Thank you to the moderators who deleted my extra posts from last night. I could not get the delete to come up under more. I got fat fingered and my computer was responding slow so I wasn’t able to get back to try to delete them for several minutes. I was able to get the delete to come up on one of my replies.

I don’t normally go beyond the Model Railroader forums except to catch up on the weekends. Hadn’t seen the announcement here yet.

I’m hoping the Wabash unit will be ready soon.

I am not affiliated with this event or with the Little Choo Choo Shop which is also a must see when in Spencer-Salisbury area. O scale is in front and an excellent N and HO in the back last year when I was there. Too bad they’re 70 miles away.

Happy railroading,

Bob
