NCE Power Cab problem

It’s been several months since I set a loco’s four digit address with the Power Cab. Haven’t done many so I am following the instructions in the manual on page 2, then onto page 3. Eveything seems OK until step #10, When I press Enter in step #9 to skip activating the short address, it doesn’t go to the long address screen, it goes to “Set CFG”. As I remember from before I had no problem going to set the long address screen. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a glitch in my cab?

Thank you for your thoughts.

Richard

You are using the “program track” function, correct? And then you are selecting standard programming, correct? What I would try is not skipping the short address steps. When it asks if you want to set the short address, say yes and set it to 3. (I know that it is already 3) Then when it asks if you want to activate the short address, press the enter key to say “no”. It should then ask you for the long address and if you want to activate the long address. Put in the long address and say “yes” to activate.

See if that works.

Richard,

maxman has it correct. Do not skip the short address – enter “3” and activate it. Then do the same for the long address. The long will override the short in normal operations.

Richard:

Just a small point about the NCE Power Cab that I learned the hard way:

For the short address make sure you put in “3” instead of “003”, despite the fact that the display shows the short address as “003”. I made that mistake a while ago while trying to program a small switcher and instead of asking what I was doing wrong, I tore out the decoder![D)][banghead][#oops][sigh][xx(]. I still haven’t fixed the damage I did to the switcher tearing out the decoder.[sigh]

Thank you for the responses. Yes, I am using the Program Track. Found the long address screen, hiding among all the other things that the system is capable of and I have no idea what most of them are. I’m slowly learning some of the things, but don’t do them often enough so I have to go back to page one and start over again.

Now to set up some of the other features I want to set up. Someday!

Thanks again,

Richard

Cool! Glad it’s working for you.[8D]

It has a bit of a learning curve. If you’re feeling that way about NCE, thank your lucky stars you made the wise choice you did, because Big D has a learning cliff, with a moat full of crocodiles and punji stakes at the bottom…[:O][X-)][D)][sigh]
