NCE switch it.????

Ok… I installed 2 NCE switch its to control 4 tortoises… I have them numbered 1-2-3-4… My number 1 keeps mysteriously programming itself to be number 4, so it operates along with #4, of course it’s the wrong direction to boot… Anyone ever have strange occurances like this happen???

I picked up two to play with and they work ok for me. Did you leave a whisker of wire across the program terminals of the #1 unit, so that it changes to whatever switch command was last issued? That’s about the only way it would constantly reprogram itself.

I’ve got about 20 of these and they all work great. Can you give some more info on how you have them wired up? Each Switch It controlling two Tortoise, one on each output? What addresses are you using for each of the four outputs? What DCC system are you using?

It’s just odd… I have the Switch it cotrolling 4 crossovers, the instructions say that they will control 2 tortoises per output and they have no trouble doing so… It’s just odd that the one which is set for default programming keeps changing it’s address… I’m using a prodigy advance… There’s no wire across the program jumpers…

I’m talking about the two terminals you connect to change the address of the Switch-It. If they are bridged it will change its address every time you operate any switch address.

No, they were never bridged… This was the only one set to the default addy…

I had a similar problem when I first installed mine. It turned out that this problem can come up if your wiring runs in a bundle. You have to seperate the wires. I had my zip tied. If I remember correctly, if you have a long wiring run, the pairs of wires should not be wrapped around each other or be too close to each other. Somehow it can cause interference. Give it a try, its worth a shot.

Honestly… I think I’m just going to take them out and use them to turn off building lights… Having a toggle switch that shows me the direction is just so much easier…

Before you go drastic, change the default address to something else.

It is very easy to connect a couple of LEDs to the output to the switch machine to show which way it is routed. And a single pushbutton to switch back and forth is really great.
