I have a problem, I’m replacing my old Mac laptop with a new Asus Windows laptop. The new computer with the JMRI program does not recognize the NCE adapter when I plug the cable into the USB port on the new computer.
The program wants a serial port.
Do I need a new cable with a serial connecter on the computer end.
Or do I need a new driver to run the NCE interface # 524 223 ?
The JMRI soft ware icon, shows a red 3 on it.

Did you install the drivers for the adapter? If not they are available here:

The JMRI icon with the red 3 is for the DecoderPro 3 front end. It is limited to just DecoderPro and you can not access PanelPro from it. During the install you were given a chance to specify which front end icons to install. Run it again if you want PP or manually set up the startup icons. You can access the new DP3 from PP.

I tried the site you suggested and down loaded what i thought was the right driver. All I got was 276 KB + or - which seems to be just the headers. I’m still working on it.
Like I told the “users group”, The last time I actually worked on computers they had vacuum tubes and took up a whole room. US Air force. [banghead]

You want the first link under Windows XP/Server 2003/Vista/7, that’s labeled “VCP Driver Kit”. It’s 6.78MB. Just click on the link and it should ask you to save the file.
