I meant to do this sooner. For those of you in and around the NE Ohio area, Division 4 of the NMRA will be having their annual Carnival of Model Railroading train show at the Berea (Cuyahoga County) Fairgrounds this coming weekend. The show runs 10-5, Saturday and 11-4, Sunday. Cost is $6 at the gate. All kids under 16 (w/adult) and parking are FREE. The location address and info are also at this link.
This will be my 3rd time attending the show and I always enjoy it. There’s good deals to be found, layouts to see, and manufacturers to talk to and haggle with. Funaro & Camerlengo, Tichy, and Marklin are usually always there.
I hope that some of you all are able to make it. I’ll be going Saturday morning and staying till around 1 or 2 PM.
Hello Tom thanks for the heads up this a grate show this will be mt 4Th year. I am going and try to buy some buildings this time instead of locos. And I am not bringing a list I never get anything on it anyway. I met you there last year. I will be there saterday I will keep a eya out for you. Have a nice day Frank
Hello no my dad is not going to make it this year. His pace maker has been giving him trouble and the doc said to take it easy for a while. So he hanging out in the basement making some wood toys for the grand kids. So I am on my own. See you there Frank.
Chances are, if the weather is cool on Saturday, I’ll be wearing my red fleece jacket so I should stick out like a sore thumb anyhow. If I do I’ll also wear my black NYC pin. The black NYC t-shirt will be somewhat hidden under the jacket otherwise.
Well, I spent 5+ hours at the show today and only walked away with buying lunch. I didn’t see anything that I really needed for the layout. I guess because of the economy, there didn’t seem to be very many bargains this year.
Saw the newest HO vehicle releases by Sylvan Scale Models - It’s great to see more vehicles in the pre-WWII and WWII era (i.e. '35-'45) being released. There were cars, trucks, trailers, taxis, and buses. [tup]
Saw the new Proto 2000 H10-44 switcher (w/sound) - The detailing was very nicely done.
Watched some “S-scale” switching on a club layout - That’s the first time that I’ve ever seen any real switching done at a train show. It was like working a puzzle and I really enjoyed going through the mental exercise along with the club member doing the switching.
Caught up and jawed with Frank (0-6-0) for a little while, as well as Dan (dansapo) and his kids - I always enjoy meeting other forum members, when possible. However, I was disappointed that I missed meeting Larry (Brakie). Did you actually make it up to the show, Larry?
Even though I didn’t buy anything, I still enjoyed the day anyhow.
Tom,I didn’t make it.Due to the damp cold weather my breathing problem flared up and I am to short winded to do much walking…I really hate this time of year.
Well, I originally wasn’t planning to go (& still didn’t make it there) but my better half wanted to hit the Metro Park Zoo today as a self imposed early birthday present to herself. I thought if we could cut out early, we could maybe make the show. But I had to work this morning, & by the time we hit the North Coast, it was going on noon. We ended up at the zoo until closing, & still didn’t see all we wanted. (1st time for me there since '74 at the age of 8) But we had a great time though, & with the rail line running fairly close to the north edge of the zoo, I was able to hear very well (& faintly see thru the trees & what not) 2 trains running, 1 with an NS unit leading, the other an old CR unit, with it’s blue still bright! They were winding up & down, the sounds just echoing thru the park, giving me goosebumps.
Anyways, we had a great day together, & maybe we’ll be able to hit the show next year.
I will be there tomarrow guys (sunday) if you see me, teenager wearing a green and white Margaretta High School Varsity Jacket, dont be affraid to say hey, I love talking to people in the hobby, Mike
Four of us drove over from the SE Michigan and Toledo area yesterday. We all found plenty we could use.
For my own part, I finally found two of the undec Walthers C&O smoothside coaches I’d been trying to find for a couple of years, and purchased two of the True Line Trains National Steel Car CN boxcars. Then there was the Funaro & Camerlengo booth- I tend to buy my F&C kits from them at shows. This time, it worked out to getting 7 kits for the price of 3. Bought a LOT of doors and windows at the Tichy Train Group booth.
Something about the show felt smaller this year. Perhaps it was just familiarity. It was definitely worth the trip, though.
Swung up to Wings Hobby Shop in Lakewood on the way home. I hadn’t been there in 14 years. Found a couple books I’d been looking for, and some detail parts. One of the others traveling with me found a few structure kits he’d been trying to get.
Taking the back roads on the way home, we were stopped at a crossing west of Port Clinton by the NS office car train (behind its matched set of four F-units). That was an unexpected bonus.
All in all, it was a very worthwhile and enjoyable trip.
