That’s some real will power you got there Tom![;)]
This was my first show in over a year.I stopped at the Tichy booth and bought the Brownhoist crane and boom car. They look like a fun kit to build.Other than that,I started with 60 bucks and left with money in my pocket.
Loathar,
I’ll admit that I was tempted on a couple of things. Thankfully, neither one of them I “needed”. (Maybe “wanted”…but not “needed” [(-D])
Tom
Went to the show today… like the others said not much in the way of deals (or in what i needed).
Went looking for bowser/cal scale/cary (whoever) stanchions, and noone had them. Everyone had a ton of diesel detail parts though, but they’re kinda useless to me. Also wasn’t any PRR locos of any quality in my price range. One store had some stewart locos that were just too expensive, though they were also too “new” (in the market for 1st gen diesel at the worst [;)]).
So 0 for 2 on stuff I was in the market for.
I did run across some things I would consider a ‘deal’ in some respect. The store that was selling the Stewart locos had some Red Caboose and some Accurail car kits. Was able to talk down the guy working the tables to giving me both the kits for $15 (they were both marked 8.50). Also went the the Funaro an Camerlengo booth and got two of the box kits. The lady working there must’ve really wanted to get rid of the boxed ones - she extended the buy one/get one deal to include the paired boxes. So I got a pair of flatcars and a refrigerated car for the price of the flatcars.
As always, watching the layouts was nice…
Tom,
I really wanted to attend this but I was in Chicago all weekend and just got back. I have to go back next weekend but I have plans to make it out to Wheaton for the show there. I went last year. When is the show out near Painsville ?
Well although I seen ALOT I liked I managed to control myself ;). I bought a razor saw and metal miter box, a digital caliper, renewed my NRMA membership, a walther Grain bin and Valley Growers kit’s. Thats about it, I really enjoyed it with out a doubt, Mike
Jeff,
Railfest is always the 3rd weekend in March at Lakeland Community College. Here’s the web site:

(So much for always. Next year it’s the 2nd weekend in March. [(-D])
Tom
I was one of the bunch with Fritz from this area that made the trip. I spent more than I have in the last few years combined at shows.
I picked up a SF Mike, a 4 unit ABBA set of Intermountain Warbonnets w/Kato drives, a Walthers baggage/dorm and PRR B60b baggage, a Model Tech Lombard Log Hauler and skids, some Tichy parts for myself. For a fellow in Maryland I found an old Walthers PRR Dining car that he has been looking for.
The Log Hauler is not for the layout. It is to show the youngsters in the family what my grandfather did for a living in 1912. He was a front steersman on a similar unit in Harbor Springs the first year that the family moved up there, when my dad was a year old. I may build it into a diorama eventually.
As a former hobby shop owner I will have to say that the Wings Hobby Shop is worth a stop for anyone in the area. Well stocked with a variety of merchandise and all clean and neat. It was a real pleasure to visit a shop like this.
I will have to agree that the NS business train was a very unexpected bonus. It was great to see a full ABBA set in excellent paint moving at speed and actually doing work. What a treat. Of course none of us had a camera with him.
