Neat Sighting in today in Sturtevant

Today 7/9/06 while watching trains on the CP line through Sturtevant a south bound Amtrak passed through with the last car being a Louisville & Nashville car?? Does anybody have any info on this car, I have never seen it before. Also does anybody who also watches trains in Sturtevant know if we are still going to be able to watch trains at the soon to be former Amtrak station or gravel parking lot once the new one opens up[?] I’ve heard various rumors from they are tearing it down the day after the new station opens so they can build a hotel?? All the way to its being moved across the street by the Milwaukee Road car? I’m just wondering if I need to find a new spot to train watch even though I love where I watch trains now.

You might want to consider watching trains from the new Amtrak station’s pedestrian overpass, assuming the local authorities don’t mind. See pictures cr-cv of Milwaukee Road #261 for a few pictures I got from the overpass.

The old station is owned by the railroad, so chances are the railroad will want to do something with that property. The only thing hotel-related I’ve heard is that the adjacent Klinkert House is supposed to be renovated.

Didn’t the Milwaukee Road build the old depot there by the Klinkert House? It certainly is a great spot to watch trains. I got a couple of pictures of bandits from there when they were switching out Johnson Wax. Plus the crossover signals are clearly visible so you know when they are coming.

I suppose if CP Rail owns the property when the new station opens up maybe they’ll just tear it down. It seems to be in pretty rough structural shape if it was going to be moved.

I saw the same car on #8 at Duplainville today. I think it is the “Ohio River”

What a beautiful car!
