I just put my wife’s iphone cell battery back in… 30 min later… anyhow, I figured something out that might apply to the MRR world. If you have to put in a screw that’s upside down, say on a locomotive, rub the tip of the small screw driver on the adhesive side of a piece of tape. The adhesive from the tape will eventually rub off onto the tip of the screw driver. The tiny screw will magically stick to the screw driver - like you want it to, defying gravity as you hold it upside down - and you can put that screw where it needs to go.
I know, I know… some screw drivers have magnetic tips. But lets face it, most don’t, and if they do, they just don’ work when you need them to. This however, did.
I have made good use of my reprogramming magnet from Intermountain to pick up screws by sticking it on to the shank of the screwdriver, but as Jeffery says, that doesn’t work with brass or stainless steel. A little tape goo sounds like a good idea!
I have one more to offer. This comes from a friend of my wife who makes jewellery. She uses the bottom end of a birthday cake candle to pick up the jewels and place them in the frame (if that is the right word). There is just enough grip from the wax to hold the jewel, but when it is placed into the adhesive the wax lets go. I haven’t tried it yet, but she is making a good living making jewellery so it must be working for her. I have some caboose marker lights which I have to mount jewels into. Worth a try.
