I am trying to discover the full name of an older Nebraska R. The only information I have are the initials B. & M.R. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
How about Burlington and Missouri River? According to the maps in the June, 1893 Guide, it went the way to Denver.

TYank you.
The Burlington & Missouri River was the subsidiary of the CB&Q which built and operated the main line west of the Mississippi River. It in turn had its own subsidiary, the Burlington & Missouri River of Nebraska, which built and operated the Omaha-Denver line. Both were absorbed into CB&Q in a later corporate restructuring.
Thanks, Paul. I thought that this was the case, but I did not have any sure knowledge of it. As we look back through the listings of roads, we often find such a name that indicated that another road was behind the construction, but for some reason separated itself from the new construction. We do have to be careful and not jump to the conclusion that one road is allied to another simply because they shared a city name in common–the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern went into the Rock Island, and not the Burlington.
