I need some help with my American Flyer s guage #283 4-6-2. The rear axle’s white walls and rims have been removed. What’s the best way to get these back on? I’m thinking about using a bench press and press them back on.
I have a large collection of Flyer and that was my total operations until 1998. I suggest you contact a Lionel service station and get their advice, but here is a link that may help you.
JD - I have a 322 that had a rim that broke into 3 pieces while running. It still has the “white wall” on and I will try a superglue method on the rim, as advised by more than one person and a Lionel repair man. But since your problem starts with the rim, hmmmmmm. I believe you would need to put the rims on first, then press on the “white wall” insulators. I believe there is a special tool for this, but maybe you can just “press” them on.
Might I suggest contacting either http://www.rfgco.com/catalog/index.html or http://www.lbrenterprisesllc.com/. I’m sure they can help.
Good luck.
To install the whitewalls and rim onto the hub, the whitewall is placed into the rim, then the hub is pressed into the whitewall/rim from the front. Due to the taper of the hub, it has to be done that way.
