I need to solder a lead onto a small circuit board on one of my wife’s Halloween display pieces. The only soldering iron I have access to is a big old gun which is way too big for this. What should I get for this type of work and where can I get it? Thanks!
Check Radio Shack.
A small 25-30 watt iron should work. Consider tinning the lead before soldering it onto the board.
You can also pick up a spool of thin solder if you don’t have any. That way you don’t end up with a huge glob on the board from using solder the thickness of plumbing solder.
Enjoy,
Chris
I bought a 40 watt iron with a pencil fine tip at Radio Shack for $10.00. I like it.
What do you guys mean when you solder a lead? I know what soldering is just not the lead.
A “lead” (pronounced “leed”) is one of the wires sticking out of an electrical component.
Buy anything but that cold heat scam solderer–junk. Many a posts on here about it a year or two ago.
