Need advice on motive power for railroad

As many of you know, i am building a layout called the CSX Southern Division. I have an Atlas U30C for the CSX and am in need of more motive power. Does anyone know of a good CSX locomotive that will run on 22" curves? Thanks in advance for your advice.[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]

I have an athearn GP 38 and a GP 40, both are csx and run great

Thanks Adam. I saw the Athearn GP38s and i know they run well because i owned one, but i just wanted to check around first before buying.

Have you posted any pictures of your progress??

What size layout are you working on?

I hope to post pictures soon. The size of the layout i am working on is roughly a shelf/peninsula type layout that is 23’ by 14’ at its largest part. Not all of the space is layour, most of it is open. As soon as i can figure out how to post pictures of things on the forums, i will do so. Thanks again,

Jordan

With a layout so big you might want to look at putting in larger curves.

It’s actually not that big, but i am planning to have a lot of 35" curves on the main line. 22" is the main line mininmum, and that will only be in select areas. C’mon, enough curves suggestions. i’m asking for motive power suggestions!

Well the Genesis SD70MACs look great. As long as those 22s are hidden they should look fine around the curves. They should negotiate the 22" curves fine, I just dont think they look very good doing it[xx(]. Bachman spectrum makes some pretty nice diesels as well. I have a couple and the pull and run great. Detail isn’t quite up to the Genesis’ level but its pretty good. Also you cant go wrong with a good old athearn blue box. They run good, easy to maintain, and a good base for superdetailing.

A little off topic here but im just curious: Are you going DC or DCC?

If you look at one of my previous posts, you’ll see that i stated that most of that space is open.

DCC

A Proto SD50 is a nice locomotive.
I have one that I plan on running with my CSX interchange.
It runs fine on 22" curves

Most of the Proto 2000 line should work fine on 22" radius. Some are already decoder equipped, and most of the rest are DCC ready. I don’t know specifically which models are available for CSX, but I think you should find several that are. The best advice I can give is to check their website and look at the various models to see which ones are available for CSX.

Atlas makes several locomotives in CSX as does Athearn.
