Need Assistance With Locomotive Display Case

Hi,

I have a custom locomotive I made and it has ladders on the outside which means if I were to put it back in the case it came with it would ruin the ladder. I decided that I would make a custom case for it. The locomotive is 5 inches long, 1.1 incles wide, and 1.2 inches tall.

I looked around and found display cases that are 12 inches long and just way too big. I plan on adding my own padding to the inside to ensure a snug fit, but the ones I’m finding are just way too big. Any ideas on where I can find something that’s closer ot the size of the locomotive? Thanks for your assistance!

Hi,

Kadee ships their HO cars in rigid, clear plastic, acrylic boxes that are 8-1/2 x 3 x 1-3/4 inches, roughly. Broadway Limited also uses similar snap-lid boxes of about the same size.

I just got some of the Broadway Limited hopper cars that came in these boxes. If you can use them, send me a PM with your address and I’ll send some to you.

regards, Ed

amazing I didn’t think of that. I was so deep that n the weeds I couldn’t see it he easiest solution. Thank you!

Step 1: Cut up foam and glue in place supporting original holder

Step 2: add additional padding for support

Step 3: Paint foam gray and caulk between gaps

Step 4: Cut out thin foam sheet the size of the opening

Step 5: Test fit locomotive

Step 6: the finished case

Was in Staples (the office supply place) just yesterday. They had a stack of nice clear plastic boxes with snapon lids for $1 each. They were the right size to hold HO rolling stock. They had some 8 inch jobs and some longer ones. Made about like tupperware.
