Hey guys, just simple question here on getting parts from Atlas. The 6 GP38 older Atlas engines I got of Ebay have gone to the rework table, got 4 of the 6 that I got for cheap all done as far as cleaned, lubed and running. The other 2 are pretty much done but have a problem. The wipers for the wheel pickup’s are completely woarn off.
I have not ordered anything from Atlas in years, do they still carry the parts for the older engines they made with the Roco/ Kato drives. And if they do, how are they about the turn around on shipping and answering emails. Let me know.
I could make the wipers, but it would be easier to just buy them. I’ve about cleaned out all my Atlas loco parts, and am thinking about ordering a dozen or so wipers.[:p]
I agree, check with Atlas. Both times that I’ve e-mailed Atlas, once for a decoder problem and once with a parts inquiry, I’ve received prompt, helpful replies.
They used to have the Roco GP38/40 parts lists online, but their site is timing out right now (weekend maintenance?) so I can’t check whether they still do or not. And if Atlas doesn’t have them any more, try Con-Cor. They bought the tooling for these locos from Atlas and produced them for a few years, so they might be able to help.
As for whether the “new production” GP38 wipers will fit the older models, I’m not sure. Since Atlas sold the old tooling, everything may have been re-engineered for their new models. But it’s worth a shot so I’d certainly ask about it.
Con-Cor did not buy the tooling, only parts and then assembled the engines in Mexico and the US. I have ordered parts for these recently from Atlas. I got fast service, as always. You got a great buy.
I doubt that. The older had the ROCO drive and the new ones have the Atlas drive which is different. Yes, e-mail Atlas- I e-mailed them and I got 2 driveshafts for my U33C. The only thing is if it’s not in their online store (not many parts are) you have to send a check or m/o to Atlas which will slow the time that you get it. (after they tell you cost, shipping, ect.) After a day-and-a-half they got back to me after i contacted them. Great people to do business with. I have a ton of parts for the older Atlas loco’s that were made in the late 1970’s throught the 80’s. I was flipping through the parts books I have for Atlas the most recent one is 1995, and list the parts and price, which I know will be higher. All the used wippers I have in parts are shot, I did not know if anyone has ordered anything as far as older parts lately, just trying to save some time.
If worse comes to worse, I can fabricate some from some other loose parts that I have. Thanks for the help guys. As far as the wipers dingoix being the same, there not. The GP38’s I have have the same thats on your FP7 though, as a matter of fact its the same truck all together, gears and all. Thought I would just let you know that. Thanks again guys.
Just to let you guys know and others about the parts that are out there for the older Roco drive that Atlas had and Concor. There are some out there. I spent most of the morning going through Concors site and Atlas’s site. Concors site has very little parts for the older engines"GP38,40,and FP. But on the bright side of the coin Atlas did have the wipers at a cost of 50 cents each. They do have other parts to, but it is pretty limited, not to many. I have to have a minimum order of $10 to pay by credit card, but am getting some other parts to have on hand that I need.
I have not ordered from Atlas in years, but have to say there site as far as parts and other items, is very nice and user freindly. Just thought I would let everyone know what I found out about getting parts for the older Atlas loco’s. Thanks again!
