Need complete list of NS subdivisions for 2013

cant find it need begining and end points …got it for CSX but not NS.

Go to and join/ register with YardLimits.com - “An Online Rail Labor Community”.

Then go to the “On Duty” page,

then to “Norfolk Southern Railway”,

then to the “NS DOWNLOAD SECTION”,

then scroll down to “(4) Norfolk Southern”,

and under that, “Operating Documents”.

There, you’ll find the System Timetable and timetables for 11 divisions that can be viewed and/ or downloaded. What you’re looking for will likely be there.

Paul:

Is that an active website? When I went there it was stuck in 2009 (November) and discussions were about BNSF being purchased by Berkshire Hathaway.

Ed

Ed - Yes, it is active. On the “Forums” list page, most threads have posts today or in the last few days; however, some of the "Sticky’ ones that are ‘pinned’ at the top are indeed a couple of years ‘stale’ since the last post . . .

For example, in the Norfolk Southern Railway forum, a recent topic is “Harrisburg Training Co-ordinator Fired ???” - about posts from July 4th - 8th - see: http://www.yardlimits.com/forums/norfolk-southern-railway/51204-harrisburg-training-co-ordinator-fired.html

Paul, I have registered, but when I go to the home page, I cannot find any reference to the “On Duty” page. What advice can you give me?

Johnny (and any others who are interested) -

Starting at the “Home” page - http://www.yardlimits.com/index.php

Click on “COMMUNITY” along the very top, just to the right of “HOME”.

A “drop-down” menu should appear - the first line is “FORUMS” - click on that, which should take you to: http://www.yardlimits.com/forums/

The “On Duty (log in to view)” thread list (including some Sub-Forums) is under the 3rd gold-colored heading line under the “Forum” heading in gray, about 1/3 of the way down the page.

Click on any topic of interest, and have fun !

Let me (us) know if these instructions don’t work for some reason, and we’ll try again.

I struggled too, but once I got to the forums, it was there…what a valuable amount of information.

Paul, you got any other nuggets for us? This one is great.

Ed

Thanks, Paul. I found the map of the system, which shows the divisions, the operating rules, and some other things, but I did not find the detailed timetables, which I expected would show the stations and junctions. I will see what the other roads offer.

And some of it may even be true!

Ed and Johnny -

Try “Multimodalways” - the “Railroad Archives” page is the gateway to lots of stuff - see: http://www.multimodalways.org/archives/rrs/rrs.html

The NS page at http://www.multimodalways.org/archives/rrs/NS/NS.html has sub-pages for ETTs, Track Charts, and Maps. The ETTs and/ or track charts may be best for the subdivision info.

  • Paul North.

Multimodal site is outstanding for information, particularly as Paul says charts.

There were timetables listed for NS. ETTs do not generally show schedules, but typically the stations, control points, speeds, etc. Not nearly as much info as in the past, but still gives you the important points.

There was a listing of CSX train symbols which I really appreciated. It is a couple of years old and does not incorporate the new symboling for CSX intermodals, but gives massive amount of coal, ethanol and other commodity trains which I never had info on.

Anyone know of other sites with similar info?

Ed

Chris Toth’s NSDash9.com is absolutely outstanding for NS loco information: http://www.nsdash9.com/

JREB is a more general NS-oriented website: http://www.jreb.org/ns/index.php?www

Sorry, don’t know of any corresponding or similar CSX websites.

I’ll put in a shameless plug for my own web site : rrpaper.com

Here’s the link to the Norfolk Southern page of the catalog:

Hope you can find something interesting!
