[?] do u need anything special for a turntable in DCC[?]
[8D]i forgot to say i model in HO scale[8D]
i have a 10.5’ x 11’ room for a layout
it has a 1 window a closet and a door as in the pic, each square in the pic=1’
These are the things that i was planning to put in the layout:
1.)i plan to model a logging and mining industries
2.)i want to have a spot to put a river with the train passing over it
3.)Turntable and 2-3 yards
5.)indstrial spurs(duhh)
6.)i will be using digitrax zypher and DT400R to run them
7.)i would like a U around the side of the room without the door and closet
8.)i would really like a lot of switching yard and track with a double main and additional lines runing

From what I’m seeing there, you could put the layout in one corner of the room and have a couple of pop-ups so you can reach the far side and corner. As far as the layout plan is concerned, if you it, I like it. It looks pretty good.
If you really like the track plan, adjust the design to an “L” or “U” and increase the yard length. The layout’s max size could be 8’x 11’ x8’ U shape and have the possibility of 24-26" radiuses on the end return mainlines. If reach becomes a problem along the 11’, narrow the benchwork to 3’. This room has some great potential.

I like this idea, take that track plan and bend it at the middle of the dog bone and turn it into an L and put it against two adjacent walls, then extend some yards along one side or add an island in the middle, giving more area to walk around.
I see that layout on a 4x8 table. It does not seem to fit your room. The idea of an L or a U shaped layout make more scence. Even a full around the room full O with a duckunder gives more layout, more scenery, more mainline and more access to built it. A two foot reach is about all that is practical without liftouts or a hanging scafold, (which has been used). Good luck, but if you have until Christmas, you can do better than whet you have.
I also agree that more yard will be in your best interest. You can never have too much staging area.
I see by your name, you must be into computers. I know nothing about designing with rail cad, but believe me there are many here that can help you if you want to alter or redesign your RR.

ive looked at it before thats what gave me the idea for this threadand i cant tell anything from it or whats what but from what i can tell it doesnt help me but…thx for the thought of it good idea
i was the same way,was so excited that i needed to do everything- i was going to scratch build all my buildings, hand lay all my track and have it done in 6 months- that was two years ago [:I]. I have built one scratchbuilt building, and 7 redesigns to my credit.
My advice to you is find a layout plan that someone else has done and published and is to your liking-for example i have used to the lastest magazine i think it was realistic railroads and used a yard plan that was in the back of the book, i have changed it alittle, as im using a 2’ by 14’ section(2). Now i have lots to do, meaning that i can do alot of switching and still add other sections to my layout as money is available.
