I can’t turn my computer on to check Trains.com and this forum without Yahoo Messenger popping up. Anybody know how I can stop this from happening?
If you don’t use the yahoo messenger, just uninstall it. If you want to keep it from autostarting, open the program, click on mesenger, click on perferences, then uncheck automaticly start yahoo! messenger.
If you are keeping the program, add adrianspeeder to your contacts.

Adrianspeeder:
Your instructions were followed until “Messenger” was reached. There was NO “Preferences” thereafter, only “Connection Preferences,” which didn’t apply. What can be done now?
Try Ctrl + Shift + P to get to preferences. Under the “General” category uncheck “Automatically start Yahoo Messenger”.
I need some help, too. I installed AdAware personal, a freeware, on my notebook in order to identify spyware. But since two months, I cannot renew my spyware-definitions. Every time, I try, the connections fails. Now, they are more than 60 days old.
Is there any other reliable freeware that protects against spyware?
Judt take a 25LBS Sledge Hammer to it. That just might do the trick.
Allan.
You might want to try Spybot - Search & Destroy. http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html
Martin, do you have the latest version of Ad-Aware? 1.06? It’s now called Ad-Aware SE.
Download the latest Adaware (good program) and also download spybot search and distroy (another good program).
What version of Yahoo are you using KP, I assumed you had the latest.

Ctrl + Shift + P did NOT work … However, I signed in, and then it worked.
adrianspeeder:
The version is 6.0.0.1922
To all:
Thanks for your help. Problem solved. Some of you rank among the Gods … I sometimes think my computer is the Devil …
i would have to agree with adrian speeder, use both adaware and spybot. as chris also said, there is a newer version of the program out, but if it turns out you have the newer version already, the definitions can be downloaded straight from lavasofts website. i think the problem youre having might be that you have spyware and adware on your computer preventing you from updating, ive had the problem before too, but im not sure if thats the reason why. if you have any other questions email me through the forum.
If you are using windows, run msconfig. This is the configuration utility.
There you will find a tab that says startup, click on it. This will list all of the programs that start when you turn your computer on. You may find a lot of things you never knew were running. Find the yahoo and un check it.
When I went into mine I found old spyware that I thought I had gotten rid of. My computer runs a lot better now. By the way, I have all of that freeware, and it only fixes some problems, not all problems, and it probably won’t attack yahoo.
In my old computer I had ad-ware installed. At the end of a session I would go to tools then internet options & then delete the temp internet files & history. Then I would bring up Ad-ware & hit the scan button then next screen hit next & Ad-ware will start. When it finishes you will want to delete all the files Ad-ware detected. Then you will want to delete them forever which Ad-ware will do for you also. Now I use AVG [:o)]
