Need help identifying a location

I purchased this photo at a train show last weekend and am curious about the location. It appears to be somewhere in the southwest. Can anyone narrow it down a little closer?

Tom

I have a DVD that shows an area very similar to this when they’re advertising available tapes – it’s somewhere on the Santa Fe (now BNSF) line in the Mojave desert, but the narrative doesn’t say exactly where.

Isn’t that a Union Pacific logo on that loco?

Sure looks like UP - Sherman Hill maybe?[?]

It looks like the “T” loop.

I’m not an expert on SE Wyoming, but from articles I’ve read about Sherman Hill on the UP, the photo sure looks like it was taken there.

Looks like it was taken right after the cut and fill were made. Notice there are no weeds or sage brush trying to grow on it like there is on the sharper curve in the rear.

I am certain it is UP. Look at the sides of the Diesels, which are lighter than the top. Then notice the darker color on the top of the nose. Another piece of evidence is the Herald on the front. Look at the baggage cars, they are in TTG(Two Tone Gray). The signals are semaphores. Where they in use on Sherman Hill?

I think that’s around Pocatello Id. and , if so, the train’s probably The Portland Rose.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! I will try using Google images to see if I can narrow it down from there.

There seems to be some speculation that this is taken on the Onion Specific someplace. Those are F3s on the point; did the Onion Specific use F3s on passenger trains? I just don’t know!
