I recently acquired some trains and I’m a novice in every sense of the word when it comes to trains. I have the American Flyer set and I can’t find anything at all on it. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it, mostly I need info on the engine, the rest are obvious. I plan on selling some of the trains and keeping others, do most people use/like eBay or are there other places that are better for train sales? Thanks, Greg
There is a large American Flier club in West Ellis, Wi.
Go Chicago Bears
Your set looks like a variation of set #1301T manufacture date would be in the 1934-35 time frame. The engine is #614. If you want to see a picture of this set go to the thread - Pre-War American Flyer Pictures - An Invitation which, at the moment, is just a few posts below this one. The set picture is in a post towards the bottom of page 5 of that thread. Northwoods Flyer and I and others are in the process of putting together a “poor man’s/woman’s guide to prewar AF” on that thread.
Mersenne6
mersenne6 - Thanks for the help, it does look like that is the right one or at least real close. The set is slightly different so I’m still looking but I now have a great start. It doesn’t seem to be a very popular model though, can’t find much on the #614 engine. Still looking.
Spike Jones - Go Bears? Come on…
You have a pre war, before world war one, American Flyer set that runs on O gauge track. From what I know about American Flyer they went over to two rail S gauge track after WW2 and made S gauge trains until the late 1960’s.
