Need Help Identifying and Valuing Couplers

Every time that I buy a piece of rolling stock, I replace the couplers with Kadees.

Now, I find myself with a couple of hundred couplers of four different types.

Can anyone identify these couplers and place a value on each type, even if only a penny, or nickel, or dime.

The first photo is a two-piece coupler with a metal trip pin.

The second photo is a one-piece plastic whisker with metal trip pin.

The third photo is knuckle coupler with a plastic hinge as opposed to the Kadee-type spring.

The fourth photo is a knuckle coupler that does not hinge open and closed, and it has no metal trip pin.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Rich

Value? $0. Throw them away.

First photo is an Accurail Accumate coupler

Second photo Proto 2000 coupler

Third photo MCHenry and/or its endless variant

Fourth photo a dummy coupler.

1-2-3 are throw away no value.

4th one can be use with block trains or display diorama.

Total value 0.00$

Jack, thanks for identifying those couplers.

No value?

Nada?

Nothing?

I’d have said #3, a Bachmann EZ mate Mk 1.

Value. A large brown paper bag full of these…

Cheers, the Bear. [:-^]

Put them out on eBay for $99.99 each, and some one will bid on them. [:-^]

This is worth a try.

Awesome, thank you so much. [8-|]

Ya’ think?

I have dozens of sets of Accumates from all the Accurail kits I’ve built, plus loads of X2f type, mostly from Bowser/Stewart kits. People DO buy them seperately, so I’m sure if I put up a pack of maybe 10 pair for a decent price someone would actually buy them. Some people actually like the Accumate ones. Not me, 100% Kadee.

I believe the fourth one is a Walthers dummy coupler. Unfortunately, I don’t find they work that well because they “lock” together with no play in the coupler face, so it’s like a drawbar. They come with Walthers ore cars; I usually set up my ore cars in groups of four and use Kadees on the ends of the outside sets, and use AccuRail dummy couplers between the cars. They have a head very similar to Kadee’s, and work well.

So, basically, none of your couplers have any real value. Pretty much all of us take the couplers off and put on Kadees, so we all have leftovers too.

Well, that solves that mystery. I have 16 Walthers ore cars and 32 of those dummy couplers.

I vote for the, Fuji’s. [:D]

C’mon, Frank, make me an offer.

Rich,

Do what I did. I gave 300 at least, to Bud, at Golden Spike, they were Horn Hooks, put them on the counter, with a FREE sign and they were gone in three days. Or do the same with them, as I suggested, in your wheel Thread.

Frank

The highest value might be a very low price plus charging twice for shipping (and handling) what the shipping cost you. Don’t forget the incremental gas to the post office. BTW, what’s this handling charging all about; i.e, how can you ship me something without handling it??

I build kits for just about all my freight cars and throw the couplers away but keep the wheelsets in the original freight car kit box, marked with the measured axle length, perhaps in case someone wants them or I just haven’t yet concluded that I should have tossed them. There’s space in the box so no big deal and the wheelsets are not offensive. But most of the couplers are (your favorite noun) and need to be trashed as an ethical issue.

Frank, I just don’t get it.

Here I have wheelsets and couplers just waiting to be bought and you are halfway to scratch building a box car. C’mon to think of it, I have some empty boxes too. [(-D]

As food for thought…

Dummy couplers works on unit trains and stack trains since there is no switching involved…They’re cheaper too.Just place a KD on both ends of the train.

If the Atlas two piece couplers are worth anything at all, I must have a fortune in my trash can.

I think the McHenry is what is in my BLI SW7s which I just had an adventure trying to replace which I described in aother thread. They actually work quite well but I tried to replace it because I wanted to be purely KD. I think I’ll make an exception to my all KD policiy for these.

Our NMRA Division has monthly meets, with one room for clinics, one for the photo and model contest as well as the videos and DVDs that can be borrowed, and one room a swap meet with free tables, first come first served. There are usually empty tables. From time to time I find myself with stuff that seems too good to toss, but not good enough to try to sell so I put it on an unused table and mark it “free help yourself.” The stuff is almost invariably gone at the end of the three hour meet. That might be the “greater fool” theory at work.

If I was going to toss it anyway (or if it is annoying me by taking up space) I’d rather give it away.
