The URL’s below should show you the picture if it doesn’t show up.

This looks like a full-length dome car. Bachmann has one for HO Scale (don’t know whether or not it is available in other scales) and it is listed on page 132 of the 2005 Walther’s catalogue.

Doug

That is Ontario Northlands dining car. They bought it used a few years ago and use it on a few of their tourist trains. It was owned by British Columbia Rail and sold to the ONR in February of 2004. Here is a little write up of it, this car really got around…

To Amtrak 9381 (leased at inception, then purchased by Amtrak), to private owner “Allen” (1978) as “Silver Garden” restaurant in Portland OR - later named “Warsaw Express” (2nd owner), (1985) Westours - car numbered WTMC 557 but not rebuilt. Car sold to Transcisco in 1991, reposessed after bankruptcy and moved to storage on Washington Central, then purchased 5/94 (800067). rebuilt as WCRC 152 for service on “Atlantic Clipper” dinner train on the NYS&W (which never happened). Car sold 5/97 to BC Rail as BCR 152 “Stardust” for the Pacific Starlight Dinner Train. Car had the “Temple Treatment” i.e. fluting added to lower car sides. Operation shut down and car listed for sale late 2002. Sold to Ontario Northland 2/2004 as ONT 900 and moved east on rear of ‘Canadian’ 4/2004 with entire dinner train consist. In service on the Ontairo Northland 6/2004.

I forgot to add its called a SUPER DOME car.

look’s like

An original AT&SF full lenth dome built for the ‘Chief’ and also used on the later ‘San Fransico Chief’. THEIR’S was not a Diner as built.

Several accurate rendition’s have been made in nickel plated brass, and Bachmann has some cheaper so so painted version’s

Certainly is a snazzy looking piece of equipment. I’ll have to check my Walthers…

Closest version would be the Bachmann car.

Looks decent and comes with an interior that’s molded in an orange-yellow color (yuck!). If you get one, make sure you take out the interior and repaint the seats with a flat color! Depending on the railroad you’re modeling, dark greens, browns, or reds would likely be the most appropriate. Bachman passenger cars are fairly easy to take apart, just take your time!

If you don’t wi***o repaint them, then spray the seats with either Dullcote or a flat clear finish. Get rid of the shine on those seats as it makes them look “toylike”.

Here’s the item number for one that’s on EBay as of this post: EBay Item #59785023.

Let us know when you get one of these as they are nice looking cars.

Hope this helps!

Actually, I think that Super Dome car was originally used on GN’s “Empire Builder”, especially since the history of the car indicates that the fluting was added after AMTRAK sold it. The original would have been built by Pullman for the 1956 “Empire”, and had non-fluted sides. I’ve seen photographs of it in the original Omaha orange and green livery, and it was one BEAUTIFUL car! If that’s the version you might be after, I’d be surprised if you’d find it in anything but brass. I think Oriental Limited imported one some years back.

I’d say your best bet would be to modify the Bachmann car - looks like you’d need to blank a few windows and maybe cut some new ones, but that’s not too difficult - to fill them, glue the glazing in place and use that as a backing plate for plastic filler, sand it smooth and paint, I’ve used this technique a few times now and it works well even for a novice kitbasher like me. Check first though - I’ve not looked closely at the Bachmann car and it may well not be far off correct as delivered. Hope this helps!

TA462 has the correct history of the car from Amtrak ownership to date.

The car was built by Pullman Standard for Milwaukee Road in 1952 as its “Super Dome” No. 57.

It is definatly Ontario Northern’s dining or dome car
