It’s an SD40-2.

Athearn (both RTR and BB), BLI, and Kato all make them. AFAIK none in that particular number.
That looks like either an EMD SD40 or SD40-2. There are several manufacturers that produce models of it. This SD40 is from Athearn:

It’s an SD40-2. See http://www.thedieselshop.us/BNSF.HTML .
More specifically, it’s a mid-production SD40-2. Athearn’s old BB unit and Kato’s current Mid-production units would be a good match to start from in HO.
Awesome, thanks guys for the help!

OK I found the Kato BNSF one available. Is this a good running unit? How’s the sound? I guess it has Digitrax decoder in it.
Thanks,
Michael
Did nobody hassle you about taking the pic?? At our local refinery near St.Paul MN they have guards out when cars are being switched into the plant. If you take a picture facing the refinery, they come and demand that you delete it because they’re supposedly on some sort of terrorist threat list or something so you can’t take pictures of the plant. This is a plant right next to the Mississippi with a smokestack probably visible for 20 miles, but you can’t take railfan pictures because somebody might use them to figure out where the plant is?? [:(!]
A Kato? You can pay more, but not buy any better!
They are excellent machines, you will be happy. I can’t comment on the sound, as I have not gone into that much. Enjoy!

Oh really? I didn’t even know Kato was good quality. Now I’m definitely going to get this. I’ll report back when I get it.
btw, I took that crappy photo with my cell phone.
BTW. The Kato doesn’t have sound (or any decoder) built in, but it apparently (I don’t have one) can easily take the Digitrax Soundbug.
One quick way to identify an SD40-2 is to look at the deck. If it looks like you can have a bar-b-que on it you’re looking at one of the series.
I think that folks have nailed the model. I didn’t take the picture but am sure it was taken on Brighton Blvd, a public thoroughfare. Refinery is owned by Suncor and has process units on both sides of the road. At the North end the UP and BNSF have a crossing. Trains stop and wait for the crossing to clear for one another all the time.
