Need help on a dicision on my layout!

I’m making a RR and can’t decide if i should set up the track so that i can turn around? also, are there any better software programs to plan track then “Right Track” by atlas?

You’ll probably get a better response if you post the same question over on the Model Railroader Magazine forums, either the General Discussion forum:
http://www.trains.com/community/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=88
or the Layouts and Layout Building Forum:
http://www.trains.com/community/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=11

This forum deals more with real trains.

Wrong forum, but I would imagine turning around is a good thing???

Like everybody else said - wrong forum. But - I don’t have any turning facilities on my layout (takes up too much space). However, there are wyes “out of sight” on both ends of my point-to-point route.

Not all real railroads have turning facilities, especially short lines and branches. What they usually do have is run-arounds where the loco can get around its train and lead on the way back.

It would depend on the era you’re modeling. Turning facilities were much more important for steam locomotives than they are for diesels. Large engine facilities still have ways of turning units these days. But if you’re not modeling a busy main line, don’t worry about it.

If you are modeling real trains even a runaround track is the exception and not the rule. Turntables or “Y”'s would traditionally be at terminal points. With the death of roundhouses many of the classic turntables are becoming rare.

try posting this on the MRR forum
