need help on removing lettering?!?!?!

hi, i want to know how to remove the stock Genesis U.P. flag off an SD70M? i want to add the better looking Micrscale one. i want to know how to remove it without hurting the paint? thanks

UP9899,

According to a good mine, Cmarchand, he used “Solvaset” to remove the numbers off of a new Proto or Atlas locomotive. Did not damage the paint on the locomotive’s surface. He suggested not to use a Q-tip or cotton as they’re a little abrasive but to use instruments with smooth surfaces, like the small “bamboo skewers” that you can find at you local supermarket. [:D][;)]

If you decide to try this, practice on a freight car or other locomotive that you use for “experimenting” [:)][8)]

Hope this helps!

In addition to Antonio’s recommendation take a look at MR July 04, page 28
for another consideration using Pine Sol and a cotton swab

locomotive i tried that Pine Sol i deah i saw in the July MR 2 nights ago on an old sw1500 i left in on there for about 3 minutes or so (which it says to do) and it took the paint off also…i will try solvaset tonight antonio and use a light smooth rag to wipe it off. thanks for the tips all!

usemicroscales Micro-sol. i used it on a bunch of genesis sd70m’s to remove the flags and lettering.

just pool some over the flag and let it soak for 15-20 minutes, keep adding more if it evaporates. then you can peel the flag off with a flat blade x-acto knife like a decal. it is a little tough to get it all out of the cracks between the engine doors. but if you let it soak long enough, it will all come up.
