need help picking a broadway limited for X-mass

My X-MASS layout needs a new engine this year, was thinking about
getting a Broadway limited, looking at these two models
NYC hudson 4-6-4 train world has on sale, or a NKP heavy weight Mikado
that broadway has on sale in there outlet site.

My layout is 4’x4’ with 18" curves - next year I’m going to expand to a 4’x8’
witch one would do best on 18"?

I say the 2-8-2.

Some time 6 large drivers have more trouble than 8 lower drivers around tight curves. Due to the 2nd driver being in the center.

c-burke9,

I just got the BLI Light Mike a couple of weeks ago. What a terrific locomotive! [tup] I have mostly 22’ radius curves on my 4 x 8, with a three-piece 18" radius section in the middle of a 22" radius 1/2 or 180 degree curve… The BLI Mike negotiates it with no problems at all. It also does fine through my Atlas Snap track turnouts, which are tighter than the #4 turnouts.

You might also want to checkout Trainworld.com for Mikes. The Light Mikes were going for $169.99; Heavy Mikes, $164.99. You’ll have to contact Trainworld to find out which roads they have in stock. They didn’t have any NYC Light Mikes the last time I checked. I got my Mike on eBay.

Tom

I have the heavy Mike and it does my 18" nicely. To deal with my grades I had to install the optional rubber tire. I love the sound. I still do DC and it is great.

Like Aggro hinted, my BLI Hudson, with 6 drivers, did not seem to like 18" curves. When I upgraded to 22", my troubles went away.

I have a BLI ‘Mike’ that negotiates the 18" curves on the BRVR’s reverse loop without problems. I’m hoping the Hudson I just ordered can do the same.
