I HAVE 2 ROCO BALDWIN SHARKS BOTH A UNITS THAT I BOUGHT A FEW YEARS AGO AT A SWAP. ANYWAY I NEED TO CLEAN AND REPLACE SOME OF THE WHEEL SETS, I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET TO THE WHEELS AND GEARS AS THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK SEEMS TO ALL BE THE SAME PIECE. NOTHING WILL PRY UP LIKE ON A PROTO TRUCK. ALSO WILL THE PROTO WHEEL AND GEAR SETS FIT THE ROCO,
THANKS
Charliel
If you don’t get a response to your question within a few days, add ROCO to your subject line. Maybe that will help. It might take time for someone knowledgeable about Roco Locos to come across your post.
In the mean time, try contacting Reynauld’s Euro-Imports and see if they can help. Maybe they have the instruction sheet for that model
Another bit of friendly advice; be sure the caps lock is off when posting your messages.
Save it for screaming & yelling [soapbox]
I have one powered and one dummy PRR shark and i like them but i am a modern modeler when i find someone that will pay what i wont for them i will sell them.
Roco has two styles of trucks, but I think the sharks had the early style. There is a screw in the bottom of the truck on the fuel tank end away from the coupler which needs to be removed. The sideframe/bottom cover has a lip on the other end. You will readily see how it comes apart.
The later style had plastic clips on the end of the truck sideframe/cover. They have to be very carefully pried off. They have avery nasty habit of breaking off which leaves you pretty well up a creek.
I would be very surprised if any Likelike parts will fit these trucks as it is all very different. Why do you want to change wheels anyway? If you have very early units with the deep flanges you can use wheels from any Roco diesels including the early locos made for Atlas.
NWSL has axle-wheel-gear assemblies for these locomotives. LL will not fit.
CSXNS,
How much are you asking and how to contact you?
I just took a look at my Sharknose - the trucks on mine (which is boxed as an “E R Models” version though I know it’s Roco) have the sideframe/baseplate moulding clipped onto the truck mainframe. It looks as though they’re designed to be unclipped from the inner end (next to the loco fuel tank) as the clips at that end look as though they’re designed to allow you to put a flat screwdriver blade in and gently lever them off - after that you’d just unhook the other end and remove the assembly. I’ve not dismantled this one at all though I have had the truck frames off my FP7s before now (had to carve a little off so they didn’t foul the Kadee #30-series coupler boxes, and also needed to file the baseplate a bit as they were grounding on Kadee magnets) and they were easy enough to remove - didn’t seem at all brittle. Hope this helps!
I need to replace some of the wheel sets in my sharks as some are not pulling just rolling, emailed and called roco, they said sorry they only keep replacement parts for 5 yrs.Anyone know of any wheel sets and gearing that will work.
thanks
Charliel
http://www.nwsl.com/pdf%20products.htm You have to measure the axle type, diameter and length and the wheel diameter. Contact NWSL about the gearing.
