I want to reuse track and would like to know what to use to remove Acrylic Latex Caulk from track before using on new layout.
Ron take a piece of sectional track and glue it down with a thin string of caulking. I do it by laying a thin string of caulk then spread it out to track width with an old CC card or some other kind of throw away plastic card. Apply the track to the caulk, hold it down with weights or pins. Wait 12 to 24 hours before removing weights.
Now you can see for yourself how easy it is to remove with a putty knife and gentle tug.
PS. Got interrupted sorry. To answer the question, Latex Caulk when used to hold track down. Is easily removed from the underside of the track with your fingers once the track is gently pulled off of the layout. If you want try a stiff brush.
If a stiff brush does not work to remove old caulk stuck to track, I have read that plain household amonia, used full strength in a well ventilated area will work to remove old caulk.
DOn’t know as I have not tried it, but it couldn’t hurt to try.
Flat wide metal paint scrapper can be used on flex track to pry it up.
Turnouts are a little more delicate. So take your time!
I use a putty knife on the bottom to remove most of it. Next I use a small wire brush. (Like the ones available from Micro-Mark.)
To remove caulk from the ties of lifted track I simply hold it in two hands, like a golf club (soft grip, please,) and rub the caulk off with my thumbs.
Fortunately I only had to do three lengths of flex. More would have been hard on the thumbs.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try this and let the forum know if it works.
