Need help with my 2426W horn relay

Hi guys.
I serviced my new to me 2426W tender last night and gave it a trial whistle last night. I am using a PW ZW for track power, with an updated whistle rectifier that I had installed a few years back.
When using the whistle control, the relay will only close momentarily then fall back to open position. If I close the contacts manually the whistle works fine. I tried every air whistled tender that I own and they all work just fine. Installed new brushes and lubed the motor prior to trying the tender. I’m at a loss……

At this point, I myself am so sick and tired of the relay in my whistle tender that I simply want to bypass it entirely. Try bending the contacts so that they are closer.

Thanks. The points were a little farther apart than I was comfortable with, so I bent them closer and cleaned them with 100 grit. Still the same. The relay reacts smartly for about 1/2 second and then just offs itself. Weird.

Most curious. I’d expect that this is definitely the relay causing the problem. Have you tried dousing the whole thing in electrical contact cleaner?

Welp, the relays are cheap enough, so I have one coming from ebay and we’ll see. :crossed_fingers:

Sure. If it keeps giving you trouble, then you could try replacing it with a circuit board (blasphemy, I know). They’re pretty cheap when you get 'em from Trainz.com.
