Need help with SD45-2 Sound unit

Hi I have a Conrail SD45-2 with sound and it’s only working in reverse, and is dead when I turn it to forward any ideas?

What manufacturer and sound decoder ?

DC or DCC control?

It would be an MRC sound decoder [:(!]. Try a decoder reset, then try reprogramming it’s address. After that, you might have to send it back.

It’s Athearn with sound installed by them, I run DC only…

Try the reset. Follow the directions to the letter and see if that helps. If it doesnt, then you need to return it.

I dont have any directions to reset it with…

It should have come with the unit. Did you buy it second hand?

  1. Turn on Power Pack

  2. Turn off the power switch (without touching throttle) and wait 2 seconds.

  3. Press and hold Button 6 and wait 5 seconds before touching any other buttons.

  4. Press button #6 5 times(waiting 3 seconds between presses…wait for “program”).

Then the unit should be reset.
