I’m trying to model a small body of water on a layout and I can’t get the edges of the plywood and foam to seal. I have 3/8" plywood with 1" foam board on top. If anyone has any suggestions on how to seal the edges for the “water” I would gladly apperciate them.
Thanks Craig
im using woodland Scenics New product called Realistic water.

Try silicone or plaster.
If you do use silicone make sure it’s paintable.
Hi Craig,
What do you mean “seal”? Are you referring to cracks between the plywood and the foam?

im trying to dam the edges of the board. I tried wax paper& tape. Opps, it didnt work to well
Are you using real water or something else?
I’d use silicone too, if your needing a certain color for the seal mix some paint in with it for desired color

Thanks for the info, but that’s not my problem. I can’t find a way to dam the edges of the board to prevent the water stuff from leaking over the edge of the board. I tried daming the edges with duct tape but I don’t know if that will work. If anyone has any other suggestions it would be helpful.
Here’s what I’ve done, and it works very well. I used a square piece of relatively rigid styrene (like .020" or more). I then applied a bead of silicone caulk to the fascia board, following along the edge of the “river bottom,” then applied the styrene. The styrene acts as a dam, and silicone keeps the water from leaking out around it.
Once the water’s cured/hardened, I peel away the styrene and then pick off the silicone caulk. This leaves a raw edge of “water” at the edge of the benchwork, which looks pretty neat.
NOTE: I’ve never used the WS stuff, so you may want to test it on a piece of styrene first to see how well it sticks. I know for a fact that Envirotex doesn’t adhere to the styrene. If the WS stuff DOES adhere too well, use a piece of clear styrene instead and just leave it there.

Oh sorry. For that try ripping up plastic bags (in canada we get milk in a bag and these bags work well) staple this firmly to the edge of your layout make sure there are no gaps in the staples. When the water is dry you can cut away the bag. Plastic from a sheet would also work. Hope I understood you that time.

Thanks for the information I will have to try it tonight.
