and Cotton Belt L-1

My SSW layout needs a steam locomotive for excursions

No one makes one in plastic that I know of. Your best bet is brass.

Again, no one makes a Cotton Belt 819 in HO plastic. Go check out brass companies like Overland. http://www.overlandmodels.com/

If you’re talking about an L-1 2-8-2 mikado, Bowser makes a kit.

Or a very heavy kitbash. Start with a BLI SF 3751.

try eBay.com click on hobbies then ho then brass imports. You’ll proably have to try once a week or so before one shows up as there weren’t all that many made.

I found a Brass GS-8 HO Locomotive made by Westside Models on ebay. it sold for $257.50.
Is this a good price?
And will there be more?

The real War Baby L-1 is at the Arkansas Railroad Museum in Pine Bluff and needs a $90,000 flue job so it can steam again. [8D]

It also has the misfortune of being trapped deep in UP terrority, unless UP changes its position of foreign steam operating on UP lines, what would be the point of restoration?

Trapped is just a word, not a permanent condition. I get the impression that the war baby might venture off on her own elsewhere to make $$$ for the museum. Don’t quote me on that, but it is theoretically possible. The other side of this is that there are seven passenger cars to run behind the 819 if someone wanted to “rent” the entire train. Also note that BNSF has overhead operating rights through Pine Bluff. Don’t tell the folks in Pine Bluff that they “can’t” do anything, they may surprise all of us.[8D]
