need info on NYC Westshore line

Requesting help,
I am looking to model the New York Central’s Westshore line btn Weehawkin NJ & Albany NY (Selkirk) Need historic info, leads to articles about the division, timetables, operations (including commuter trains - time frame i am modeling early 1960’s to present - Any help would be very much appreciated

Hi,

I’ll be watching to see if any one else responds because I’d like this info too having lived as a kid near the Kingston/Saugerties NY area. The freights were Penn Central when I first started noticing trains as a 10 year old. Any way, the only thing I’ve discovered online is a couple of pages of history about the New York, West Shore and Buffalo Railroad that eventualy became part of NYC. Check http://nyc.railfan.net/westshore.html
Best of luck!
Ralph

Suggest you look into trainorders.com and see that they have some interesting links to sites of particular interest to people looking for informaiton on specific roads or divisions, etc. I found information on the old NYC Putnam division by looking through this site. Might help you out.

Passenger service ended in 1957. There was apparently an agreement made that in return for New York State allowing abandonment of passenger service on the West Shore and Putnam divisions, the New York Central would get new passenger cars for the remaining Hudson and Harlem lines–these being the multiple unit cars that are now being replaced. The New York, Ontario and Western also used the west shore line and went out of business around the same time–this probably made possible the abandment request. There are some pictures of NYOW equipment in Don Ball’s book and I believe there was a book written about the NYO&W.
