I am looking for information on what I believe to be called the vertipak Rail car I need either pictures of it or an HO scale Model of it. only one company I have talked to so far has made it but that was is 1995 and they made only 250 of them out of brass and they retailed for aroung 350.00 since I am a modeler on a budget I want to get Picture of it and make one of my own if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
I tried both www.trainweb.com and google, and found nothing. This would lead me to suspect that this is a very rare and unusual car - maybe a prototype that never went into series production? Do you have any more information - what was it used to carry, for example? I can understand your wanting to build one, given the price of the ready-built version!
this car was used to ship chevy vegas from the assembly plant the cars open like a book the cars were loaded on the sides and closed which resulted in the cars actually getting shipped in the vertical position.
Ahh, I remember seeing a picture of something like this many years ago in a book titled something like “big book of trains” - it looked a bit like the conventional covered autorack cars but with drop-down sides for loading? I can only assume that it didn’t work very well as I’ve never seen any other mention of it until now - wasn’t even sure if it really existed!
You might have some success over at the “Trains” message board - there might be someone there who knows more about this car. Sorry I couldn’t be much help - as I said, I wasn’t even sure if this car existed!
There was quite a discussion on Vert A Pacs on autoracks at yahoo groups dot com last year. You’ll find the information you need there or at least someone who can answer any questions.
Quality Craft made an HO Scale box of sticks kit back in the late 60s or early 70s.
The Vert A Pac shipped 30 Chevy Vegas on their noses from point of origin to desitnation. Fifteen vehicles were loaded be side of the car. Problems arose from this unuasual shipping arangement.
Drawings were done in MR around the time it came out (late 70’s?).

I know that it is available in N scale. Or has been not too long ago. I don’t have one. Too modern for me.
