I pulled this thing apart, the weight has gone to the black hole in space. Parts diagram does not show a weight (!), at least on my copy. If someone has a photo, I’d like to know the object of my search.

I’m beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.
When I click here I get “permission denied”.
I don’t have a clue why that is happening.

Sorry about that

I appreciate your effort; the red box versions feature different drive with a can motor, I am thinking other differences as well.
sandusky:
I use 1/16" lead sheet to make weights. It is thin enough that it can be easily cut with tin snips, and it is soft enough that it can be formed to fit whatever space you have. Obviously you have to use multiple layers to get the weight needed.
Google ‘sheet lead suppliers’, not ‘lead sheet suppliers’. If you use the later search term you will get a lot of web sites selling music scores. The lead itself isn’t too expensive but the shipping costs a bit. I buy it in 2’ x 2’ sheets and they last me two or three years. You may have to search a bit before you find a supplier who will ship small quantities.
Another source is roofing supply companies. If they sell tile roofing they will have lead in stock.

Here’s what you’re looking for…

I happened to have my Empire State Express, “Red Box” Hudson opened up for a motorectomy. I found a “close, but no cigar” motor. The shaft is about 5mm short and only one ended but I may make it work…
Good Luck, Ed
Easy to make a decent replacement for that weight out of sheet lead.
Just sayin’,
Dave
P.S.
You could also fabricate a mold form out of aluminum sheet and pour yourself an almost identical copy of the weight. That’s what doctorwayne would likely do. Not sure where he gets his lead but used wheel weights are a good source.
No doubt I could fashion a replacement; I just wanted a shot at identifying the one I surely have in my parts box…
